Result: RAGS 9½ – 5½ RMGS
We were very fortunate to play in glorious British weather; bright sunshine (22 degrees) and light winds, which led to a very enjoyable day at Tidworth Garrison GC. The course was in excellent condition, being set up for the Bulford Cup the following weekend; the rough was deep and challenging and the greens were true and fast for all!
Following the morning 4-Ball Better Ball pairs, we were in a favourable position leading 3.5 -1.5, which gave us a slight psychological advantage over The Royal Marines (who had suffered a heavy defeat the previous year). They came out determined and with some of their players hitting the practice area after a quick lunch break, the scene was set for an epic battle. Unfortunately, for the Marines, while it was closer in the afternoon, it was not their day. ‘Buoyed up’ by a pep talk from the Secretary the night before, ‘to make sure we didn’t lose’, the RAGS team were gracious winners and once again brought home the ‘Moorby Putter’.
Thanks were passed onto Tidworth GC, who yet again put on a great day at excellent value and thanks the team and a particular thanks to Clive Hunt who stood in at the last minute, had to put up with my boring ‘dits’ all day and came away with 2 points. Well Done Team!
