For some reason a difficult fixture to furnish with a team of willing volunteers, that said for the second year in a row 19 Regt came to the rescue. For the second year in a row play was delayed due to heavy rain. But this fixture was unique in that it was played over 2 days nearly 2 months apart.
With each side in ‘Gortex till End Ex’ they started the morning (17 May 17) on a very wet and windy Tidworth. Despite the weather there was still room for some good golf, of particular note was Sgt Campbell’s 20 foot birdie putt on the 5th (apparently you had to be there, something about it lipping three times before dropping in).
With the course declared unplayable the afternoon matches had to be reschedule for Wed 5 Jul 17. The second half of this match was played in much better conditions with the REME fielding a much stronger team. With RAGS starting 4 up we would have to go some way to lose this one. Step forward our very own ‘old reliable’ x 2, in the guise of Lt Col Thornton and Maj Parks … halving and losing their games respectively it took a captain’s performance to show the way. Step forward Sgt Campbell, an outstanding day’s golf finishing with 14 pars in his round.
RAGS finished the day strongly losing only 2 games out of the 8 played and regained the trophy.
