RAGS v HAC GS Friday 4 October Clandon Regis GC
Result: RAGS 2½ – 2½ HAC GS
The annual RAGS vs HAC GS match was played on a beautiful day at Clandon Regis, just outside Guildford, the first time either society had visited the course.
We were welcomed by the team at Clandon with Bacon Butties and coffee and prepared for battle. Teams were 10 a side and we played 4 Ball Better ball in the morning. Due to some last minute team changes, the HAC were left without their Captain, and so Tim Richardson (an HAC GS member) stepped in to play for the opposition in the first flight.
After a very brief shower and soaking on the first hole, the sun came out and we were treated to a beautiful day in the Surrey countryside.
Partnering Richard Stubbs from the HAC GS, a closely fought battle ensued with Iain Campbell and Frank Renton – a close 2 and 1 victory for the HAC. There followed RAGS victories by Dunk/Weldon and Chaundy/Mountford and a scrambled half by Watson/Brown meant the match was drawn, to leave RAGS unbeaten in this fixture since 2005.
