A Glorious Wednesday at Frilford Heath – Serving v Retired
By Colin WelbourneMatchesServing v Retired, Frilford Heath, 18 April 2018
The traditional opening match of the season against the Serving v Retired at Frilford Heath Golf Club, was held yesterday over 2 x championship courses (Red & Green) at FHGC. Spring has sprung as we were greeted with unrelenting sunshine and nothing more than a light breeze – perfect golfing weather.
Many stalwarts of this fixture returned to continue this annual battle for bragging rights for the season with some new faces in attendance.
The morning 4BBB, very much went the way of the Retired Team. However, Rob Stiff partnered with Lee Wotherspoon held the flag flying for the Serving with a convincing victory against John Ransom & Alan Goldsworthy (I will not mention the score).
A severe team talk by the Serving Captain to rally his side for the afternoon Greensomes fell on death ears with only 2 points being won. Congratulations therefore go to Bruce McMillan (Retired Captain for the fixture) and his side for a convincing victory and a match result Retired 9 Serving 3.
Here’s looking forward to the rest of what promises to be a terrific season – if you haven’t played in any matches for some time, I would encourage you make this year, the year that you get involved.
